How to plan it.

A market stall is judged before anyone is close enough to ask a question. Two pieces do most of that work: something at eye level with your name on it, and a clear price on every item. Shoppers who cannot find a price often walk on rather than ask.

Hang tags let you price and explain at the same time, which matters for anything handmade, where the story is part of what you are selling. Keep the tag short: what it is, what is in it, what it costs.

A branded bag travels through the rest of the market on someone else’s arm. It is the only piece on this list that advertises you after the sale.

Before you order.

• Write prices large enough to read from outside the stall
• Check whether your market requires ingredient or allergen information on tags
