Paper weight calculator
Estimate individual sheet and batch weight from paper dimensions, GSM and quantity, with a separate packaging allowance. Download a free brief.
Use a measured sheet size and the stock supplier’s GSM. Enter the actual packaging allowance separately.
One sheet: 4.99 g Paper batch: 2.495 kg Packaging allowance: 0 g Combined estimate: 2.495 kg Combined estimate: 5.5 lb
Includes only the stated paper and packaging. Ink, coatings, adhesive, inserts and moisture variation are not estimated automatically. This does not determine carrier price, mailing eligibility or paper thickness.

Worked example: a ream of A4 paper
A 210 × 297 mm sheet has an area of 0.06237 square meters. At 80 grams per square meter, one sheet weighs about 4.99 grams. A batch of 500 sheets weighs about 2.495 kilograms before wrapping or a box. Adding a measured 150 gram packaging allowance gives about 2.645 kilograms.
What this helps you decide
Compare the mass of two proposed paper stocks or plan how much material a team must carry to an event. A finished brochure may contain multiple sheets: enter the total physical sheet count, not its page count. For labels, use the complete material specification, including liner, if available. Confirm the final packed weight on a scale.
GSM is not thickness
Two papers with the same GSM can have different thickness, stiffness and surface treatment. Request a physical stock sample when those properties matter. This calculator does not convert GSM to points or guess which paper a printer can run.
How this tool works
Sheet mass in grams = width in mm × height in mm ÷ 1,000,000 × GSM. Batch mass = sheet mass × sheet count. Add the stated packaging mass.
Use the actual specification from your selected printer. Defaults are examples, not universal production requirements. These tools do not inspect a PDF, certify a print file, provide a supplier quote or predict sales.
