Envelopes that fit
An insert needs a little room on every edge to slide in without bending. These fits use the sizes on record for each card against the five colored envelope sizes we sell, and pick the smallest that fits.
| Card | Size on record | Smallest listed envelope that fits | Room each side | Room each end |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| RSVP cards, enclosure cards, 5.5 × 4 in save the dates | 4.213 × 5.472 in | 4.375 in × 5.75 in (A2 Envelope) | 0.081 in | 0.139 in |
| Thank you cards | 4.272 × 5.472 in | 4.375 in × 5.75 in (A2 Envelope) | 0.052 in | 0.139 in |
| 5 × 7 in invitations and menus | 5 × 7 in | 5.2 in × 7.24 in (A7 Envelope) | 0.1 in | 0.12 in |
| 4.6 × 7.2 in invitations | 4.606 × 7.165 in | 4.75 × 7.5 in | 0.072 in | 0.167 in |
| Invitations named 6 × 9 in | 5.472 × 8.504 in | 6 × 9 in | 0.264 in | 0.248 in |
| Itinerary and menu cards named 4 × 8 in | 3.74 × 8.268 in | 3.875 in × 8.875 in (#9 Envelope) | 0.067 in | 0.304 in |
Colored envelopes come in Silver Metallic, Navy Blue, Ruby Red, White Linen and Kraft Paper, with a moisture activated flap. They are not custom printed. Addressing is yours: add stamps, labels or your own handwriting, and see colored envelopes and address contrast before you pick a dark color.
One honest flag on sizes. On wedding invitations, save the dates, itinerary and menu cards, the option named 6 × 9 inches is recorded for the artboard at 5.472 × 8.504 inches, and the option named 4 × 8 inches at 3.74 × 8.268 inches. Design to the recorded size, which is what the Studio shows, and choose the envelope from the table above.
Postage starts with the envelope
USPS sorting machines take a letter between 5 × 3.5 and 11.5 × 6.125 inches, no more than 1/4 inch thick, with length divided by height between 1.3 and 2.5. All five envelope sizes we sell fall inside that ratio: the A2 is 1.314, the A7 1.392, the 4.75 × 7.5 inch 1.579, the 6 × 9 inch 1.5 and the #9 2.29. A square envelope has a ratio of 1.0 and pays a nonmachinable surcharge on every piece, as does anything rigid or lumpy. Assemble one complete invitation with every enclosure, seal it, and have a post office counter weigh and measure it before you buy stamps. Read square envelope postage for the detail.
Paper, foil and finish
- Five stocks cover most of the suite: Standard Matte, Premium Plus Uncoated, Premium Glossy, Pearl and Linen. Use uncoated or matte for anything a guest writes on.
- Foil is raised on invitations, RSVP and enclosure cards, and embossed on save the dates and thank you cards.
- Printed sides are front and back, front only, or front with a gray back.
- Painted edge invitations are 32 pt, about twice a standard card, with color on all four edges.
- Letterpress is single color with a deep impression, on uncoated or cotton stock.
- There is no invitation sample kit. Order the smallest quantity of the piece that matters most and choose by touch.

The mailing windows are common etiquette, the same ones in our weddings and events guide, not rules. The print column is the one we control. Standard delivery as soon as 6 business days from your order, production included. Your cart shows the estimated day for your quantity, and any faster delivery the item offers with its exact charge. Build slack into the dates rather than counting on a rush.
What to send, and when
- Build each card at its file size with bleed. A 5 × 7 inch invitation file is 5.118 × 7.118 inches, 1535 × 2135 pixels at 300 PPI; every size is in the print size chart.
- Have someone who did not design it read every name, date, time and address aloud. There is no proof approval step: the preview you see before paying is what prints.
- Check the ceremony and reception addresses separately.
- If you print a QR code to an RSVP site, make it with the free QR generator and scan it at its printed size.
- For menus, check course descriptions against the caterer's written allergen list. FDA names nine major allergens, sesame being the newest.
- Order extras of anything you finish by hand.
What we do not do
We print and ship the pieces to you. We do not address envelopes, buy postage or mail anything for you, and colored envelopes arrive blank. If something arrives damaged or misprinted, tell us within 30 days of delivery and we reprint or refund it.

Frequently asked questions

Which paper should I choose for invitations?
Pearl or Linen for a dressier feel, Premium Plus Uncoated if guests will write on a card, and Premium Glossy for photo led designs. For a heavier piece, painted edge invitations are 32 pt and letterpress invitations come on 110 lb or 220 lb cotton.
Is there a proof before printing?
There is no separate proof approval step. The preview you see before paying is what prints, so have someone who did not design the invitation read every name, date and address aloud first.
