Texas made right of way signs expensive
A Texas law effective September 1, 2025 sets civil penalties for an unauthorized sign on the right of way of a public road: up to $1,000 for a first violation, $2,500 for a second and $5,000 for a third or later. It reaches the person who placed the sign, who commissioned it, or whose advertisement is on it, and a first violation comes with written notice and time to remove. Keep yard signs on private property, with the owner's permission.

Not on poles, trees or traffic signs
Houston's own code makes it unlawful to put advertising signs, posters, labels or stickers on utility poles, trees, fences, hydrants, street light and traffic signal standards, or traffic signs in public places. Lightweight stake signs picked up from the right of way can be thrown away on the spot, and on conviction the fine is $300 to $500 for each violation, with each day counted separately. A sign in a customer's yard, placed with their blessing, avoids all of this.

Hurricane season sets the outdoor calendar
The Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, and the National Hurricane Center puts its peak around September 10, with most activity from mid August to mid October. Plan outdoor banners and flags so they can come down fast. Our feather flags are rated for wind up to 37 mph, so bring them in whenever a storm is forecast, and reorder signs after the season if they took a beating.

Rodeo season
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo returns March 2 to 21, 2027. If your business plans a rodeo themed promotion, a watch party or a team outing, February is the month to order: banners, flyers and shirts need up to 18 business days from artwork to delivery on standard shipping.

Materials that suit Houston weather
Our yard signs are 4 mm weather resistant corrugated plastic in 19 sizes, printed on one or both sides, and stands are sold separately. For banners that stay up all summer, choose outdoor 15 oz or heavy duty 18 oz vinyl with heat welded edges. Door hangers come in a plastic option for routes that may get rained on.
