Big events need a handbill permit
The City of Miami code requires a written permit to post, display or distribute commercial handbills at any event with 15,000 or more people on property owned or operated by the city, or within 1,000 feet of it. The permit comes from the city manager's office or a department it designates, with a nonrefundable $150 fee and a copy of the material. City police enforce it, and a conviction can bring a fine of up to $500, up to 60 days in jail, or both. If your street team is planning to work a big crowd, sort the permit before you print.

County property needs a permit too
The county code makes it unlawful to post, display or distribute signs, circulars or handbills about a business on county owned or operated property without a written permit from the Board of County Commissioners; public streets, roads, highways and sidewalks are excluded from that rule. City code also bars leaving handbills on private property without the owner's prior consent. Between them, the safe places for a flyer are people's hands, your own storefront and private property where you have permission.

Hurricane season, June 1 to November 30
The National Hurricane Center puts the Atlantic season at June 1 to November 30, with a peak around September 10 and most activity from mid August to mid October. Order outdoor banners and flags so they can come down quickly, and keep a spare set of reopening signs ready. Feather flags are rated for wind up to 37 mph, so bring them in whenever a storm is forecast.

Winter event season across the bay
Art Basel Miami Beach holds its public days December 4 to 6, 2026. The Discover Boating Miami International Boat Show runs February 10 to 14, 2027, centered on the Miami Beach Convention Center with waterfront venues around the area. Both sit in the City of Miami Beach, and both are worth planning around if you run a gallery, restaurant or marine business in Miami and want cards, decals and banners ready in time.

Materials for sun, rain and salt air
For a banner that stays up, choose outdoor 15 oz or heavy duty 18 oz vinyl with heat welded edges and grommets; the outdoor material lasts up to 2 years outside with proper care. Window decals are weather resistant vinyl and can go on the inside of the glass, out of the rain and behind where shutters close.
